Shopping event!

Hello lovelies!

Yesterday was the shopping event at the American Club in Tai Tam which featured over 20 vendors of all types from home deco, jewellery, greetings cards and even a vendor specifically for funky clocks!

We got some great feedback and we had a lot of happy customers and everyone seemed to love our new Maka collection.

Usually when we go to these shopping events we try to understand the event and what type of people will show up so we can cater to their style, so we think about their age and look at past event pictures if we can to determine what to bring because of course we have A LOT of stock! Our Maka pieces start at a great price, around $200 and go up and over $10k which are all sterling silver or gold, adorned with beautiful precious and semi precious stones.

Guerilla Galleria

Last Sunday while Kanch was in India, Maria, Kanch's cousin and I woke up early and journeyed to a cool concept space called Fill In The Blank that hosts tons of different events from coffee making, fashion and beauty events such as creating your own organic lip balms and more.

We were approached by Sara from Sara's Henna to be a vendor for Guerilla Galleria amongst 9 other creative vendors.
The KC team were super excited for this event as it was the perfect timing to release our new collection: Maka by Kanchan Couture.
Kanch decided to create a collection that was a little different from our fashion jewellery and come out with more classic, timeless, elegant pieces made of 925 Silver and Gold with natural gemstones.

I love the variety Kanch created with these pieces, the price range is fantastic and theres so many different coloured gems to suit everyones style and stone sizes to suit wherever you're going, cocktail party, engagement party or just a lunch date.

We had so many wonderful compliments on the day about our new pieces and made some ladies very happy!

I want to thank FTB and Sara for hosting a wonderful event with great live music and unique and friendly vendors.

Plan to Shoot

The other day we had talented local photographer Chris stop by our office for a meeting about a possible collaboration shoot for our new jewellery lines!

I won't say too much about the new jewellery because we're also planning an event to unveil the new collections, yup collectionS! We've gone in a different direction to our fashion pieces and I am so thrilled about learning and working on new endeavors.

So the pieces in our new collections are slightly smaller than the pieces before, and definitely more shiny and for a slightly different demographic.

In our meeting we discussed locations, hair, make up and models but as its in the beginning stages we're stil pulling inspiration and ideas together.
I love this part of planning a shoot, going through magazines and websites to pull different images for possible ideas.

Because we want the main focus to be the jewellery, we're thinking of going soft, subtle and natural.
I was thinking of mainly beach shots because they seem to be the most appropriate for the look we're going for.

My second idea is to do something more intimate and relaxed, like a "getting ready" sort of theme. I was watching the Louis Vuitton Fall 13 RTW show and Marc Jacobs said something that I was really inspired by, that the collection was based on a fabulous woman that was getting ready but ended up with nowhere to go but looked ready and wasn't phased by the fact that she had nowhere to go.

I imagined this amazing independent woman getting ready in front of the mirror in a hotel in Paris while the sun was setting, putting on her makeup. It was subtle makeup, hardly any but still beautiful and city ready. She puts on her jewellery and a simple black dress but finds out the party in cancelled so she just sits around her hotel room all dolled up but nowhere to go.

Hamsa

Today, Kanch brought an interesting article about the Hamsa Hand symbol that we've been using for our Atma bracelets and heres what it said..

"The Hamsa is a palm-shaped amulet symbolising the hand of God. It is believed to bring its owner happiness, health and good fortune. Although the Hamsa Hand has been symbolic in Islam and Judaism for centuries, archeological evidences from the West Asia shoe that the Hamsa pre-dates these religions and perhaps, originated with the Pheoenicians and was used as a protective symbol for an ancient fetility goddess. In Islam, Hamsa is known as the Hand of Fatuma, Prophet Muhammad's daughter Fatima Zahra, said to be an epitome of faith and tolerance. In Jewish tradition, the Hamsa hand is believed to help banish negative energy and bless its owners with luck and good fortune. Jews believe that Hamsa symbolises the hand of Miriam, the sister of Moses and Aaron. Kabbalists see the five fingers of the Hamsa hand as representing the five books of the Torah. In the Christian tradition, the symbol is associated with the hand of the Virgin Mary and it's said to protect pregnant women from malicious gazes and ensures a healthy pregnancy. "

Jewellery Stylin'

Last Friday, I attended the Viss Fashion Friday @ Mella in Central and the one thing that was apparent was the obscene amount of chunky jewellery that night!

As of late a lot of brands are coming out with chunky gemstone pieces that are very regal looking. I remember when I saw a Dolce and Gabbana runway show a while back with some gorgeous chunky, floral, gem covered earrings, headbands and necklaces to match. Needless to say I fell in love with the look. The entire styling that D&G did was so classy, elegant, feminine but powerful and endearing.

I think the recent collections D&G have done in regards to jewellery have been very whimsical and housewife-esque but with a holiday feel. Rarely do you see such accessories in a work environment  which calls for a more subtle less distracting look, however if you're on holiday or you're out and about don't be scared to bling it up! The bigger the better and the brighter the better is the trend for jewellery this year! Try different shapes, sizes, embellishments and colours that you don't usually go for or if you're on the subtle side, go for a more classic gemstone bling look.

Kanch loves colour so it wouldn't be a Kanchan Couture collection without some fun colours and beautiful natural stones all sourced by Kanch herself.
We like using masha jade beads because of their vibrant colours and how long lasting they are. Paired with natural stones such as lemon quarts and amethyst, which also have healing powers if you're into that sort of quality.
We have different sizes of stones to match each personality, whether you're into a larger heavier necklace which is a standout/conversation piece or a more subtle one with smaller stones and beads if you don't want to go over the top or cause a distraction at your meeting or at work!

PRECIOUS STONES

Hello lovelies!

I wanted to dedicate this post to our fabulous jewellery that we've been creating for 2 years now! It sounds like ages and when you look at all our collections it definitely shows!

We've currently got about 29 collections using tons of different materials, stones and embellishments that are sourced from all over the world such as India, China, the US, and recently Germany.

Its been so wonderful seeing our collections grow and learning more and more about techniques and trends that i've complied a list of my favourite collections and Kanch's.

Most of our components are made from brass which is created by using a sheet of metal, in our case a brass base metal and then a pattern is cut, embossed or engraved using a machine or by hand, depending on how intricate the design is. The piece is then mass produced, cleaned and sorted as the defect ones are thrown away or melted to recreate a new piece. Some pieces are wet sanded to remove marks or create smoother edges.

Another way of creating a brass piece is to create a mold of a design, that like a stencil is the negative so that the mold can be filled with metal and left to cool to keep its shape.

After either of these processes it is then micron plated, using gold or silver to prolong its life. Micron plating indicates the thickness of the plating. The great thing about brass jewelry is that the price is great and if you take care of your piece and clean it every so often and keep it in a dry place, it will last you years.
As a bonus, if you like vintage jewellery your item will wear over time and have an antique look, which personally is my favourite type of jewelry.

Kanch just recently went to Tsing Tao, China to do some sourcing and check out some factories, which also make jewelry for H&M, Forever21 and Zara to name a few.

A little insight on our favourite collections.....

My favourite collections are the Indian Onyx Collection which is an Indian inspired collection with this beautiful vintage gold looking plate over the brass that gives it an antique feel.
I think this is my favourite collection because it reminds me of the jewellery the Ancient Egyptians wore.
Kanch used green, blue and purple onyx stones to give each piece a little more colour and depth which i thought was a fabulous choice as green and purple are my favourite colours.
I would call myself a plain jane, and this collection is perfect if you're looking for something simple but works with both casual and a glamourous night out.

Kanch's favourite collection (so far of course) is the Gold Collection which is our largest collection yet with over 50 pieces.
With this many pieces there is a wide range of large and small, with stones or without that suit all types of personalities, events and occasions.
The main attraction to this collection is the delicate filigree pieces with different shapes and patterns that are spruced up with jade beads, natural stones, pearls and glass.
Kanch loves a big signature piece so her favourites are the chunkier pieces but the great thing about this collection that I really like is that the larger pieces usually have smaller sister pieces for more mellow and plain or classic personalities. Check out some of the pieces below!
