Bridal Accessories

We've been getting a lot of calls recently about bridal appointments and we're so sorry to say that we're fully booked this year!
We've also dedicated a lot of our time to charity, and a lot of new projects and events we're planning but I've decided to do a little update on bridal accessories!

When we have beautiful brides come to us to get their dresses made towards the end of the process in the final stages, talk of accessories and jewellery usually follow as its getting closer to the date.
We usually say to keep in mind a few things...

One: Keep in mind your colour scheme for your entire wedding, if you're going with neutrals then stick to that palette, don't go for neon accessories, tone it down to match, not clash. You also have to consider your bridesmaids dresses and accessories.

Two: Tone it down, keep it elegant and classic. You dont want accessories and jewellery to distract on YOUR special day. If you have a complicated collar on your wedding dress dont wear a necklace, think about a headpiece and bracelet. *Don't wear too many rings, you don't want to divert the attention from the ring that means the most!

Three: Be sensible about your shoes, keep in mind your location and duration of the wedding. If you're planning it on a beach wear some wedges to give you a better sense of gravity or some pretty sandals. If your wedding lasts hours, bring a change of shoes or wear some comfortable shoes like flats.

Four: Find your signature style for your wedding dress. Make sure on your big day that you are completely true to yourself in sense of style and comfort. If you're a vintage gal, work around that for your wedding, it will be easier to do your research for clothing and jewellery even display items! The style of your dress will determine the amount of accessories, if you're having a winter wedding and your dress is long sleeves, accessorize with a gorgeous embellished veil or waist belt.

Photoshoot, Day Three- Models, models, models

Photoshoot, Day Three- Models, models, models!

Today was a blast; I can’t believe it’s already over.
We all met at our office at 8am to prep the models for hair and make-up. While they were getting their hair and makeup did, Kanch, Shivani and I packed up 20 items of clothing, and chose where our first location would be.

We decided to shoot mainly in the MTR stations around Hong Kong because each station had some really great coloured walls, and each station was a different colour.

We hired our lovely van guy for the day and our first stop was Heng Fa Chuen which was a red MTR station. Our gorgeous models got into their first outfits and we made our way into the station after being dropped off.

We had to rush and get our shots before the MTR guys kicked us out. Which they did, four times-hhaha. So we left the station and shot outside an apartment complex.
It was pretty intense keeping up with everything because we had to change the models jewellery and accessories nearly every 5 minutes. And trust me; we had A LOT of jewellery to shoot!

We then went to Shau Kei Wan MTR which was a beautiful royal blue/purple colour. Our models had already changed for their third look so we were right on schedule or even ahead of schedule! We then had to say goodbye to our blonde bombshell model Nic because she had another casting to go to but we couldn’t be happier with her shots : )

Our next stop was Sai Wan Ho which was a bright yellow station, and finally Quarry Bay, where we shot outside the station and then inside which was an aqua colour. We aimed to finish at 7pm but we finished at 4:45 instead. We are so overwhelmed that everything came together- I must admit, there were a few hiccups on the way! But everything turned out great and we shot more than we had anticipated.

What a rollercoaster ride. Our photoshoots were such a success and the KC team would like to thank everyone that made this possible.

Food Fashion

Lady Gaga and her meat dress, although put animal activists around the world on a rampage, was not the first person to sport some food Fashion.

Ted Sabarese, photographer, shot a series of photos titled 'Hunger Pains', echoing what his models wanted most..
Elegant in Protein
Lasagna indulgence
But bread is so good...
Waffles...
Death by artichoke?

I wouldn't wear food dresses, but I would definitely give the following food accessories a try ...

Pass me the Broccoli Please!
Berry Beautiful
Chocolate Studs
Yumm....
Uhm, maybe I wouldn't wear this fish bracelet,
could hurt my dating life!

Eggplant shoes
Banana Leaf Straps
Hungry for more?

Style Me

Hong Kong is one of Asia’s Fashion Fusion capitals. With a population melting pot of different people, styles and clothes -- fashions are heightened, as the competition to look fashion forward is always high. I have been cat-sitting for my friends on Discovery Bay this week, and the walk from the ferry pier to work has been quite a good change, (as opposed to my regular bus which drops me off right in front of work.) During this walk, I notice other women, and what they wear to work. Some sport the generic work attire, but some women wear their clothes in trend, with easy add-on / take-off accessories, so that they can head out on a night in the town after work.

While working at Kanchan Couture, I have noticed a recurring question that is asked all the time. “How would I wear this on a night out?” or “I’m not sure how to wear this, how would I style it?” As an answer to the many women who are looking for advice we began catering styling sessions. Now I know I hinted at a few of our newer services last week, but with recent business developments -- we have decided to offer our private styling parties via experience companies (fantastic new concepts companies. Why gift something material, when you can give someone a hot air balloon ride experience as a gift!) – towards the ends of this year and early 2011, keep your eyes open for more information in later blogs.

These Styling Sessions are all about having fun, and we always end up making new friends at the end of each session. What I’ve been enjoying is meeting all the different types of women, and learning and evolving my own sense of style with each session.

As a special preview into our private styling sessions, Kanchan Couture and Tiare Boutique join hands and host a special SUPER STYLING SESSION next Thursday the 18th of November, 2010. Tiare, one of our newest retail friends, have started to carry and sell Kanchan Couture accessories. Meet Kanch, meet me, and test our savvy to style and experience just a little bit of styling fun with us.

RSVP to annie@kanchancouture.com to attend our Super Styling Session Thursday, 18 November 2010.

It's ALL about the Accessories

We’ve been in the drawing room working on next season’s accessories. When creating accessories, designers have to think of everything. Working here with Kanch, I get a bit more insight into what she takes into consideration.

Monday morning this week was sunny, bright, beautiful. First thing on the agenda for our fashion forward designer was a trip to Hong Kong’s hub for material and textile sourcing…Lai Chi Kok & Sham Shui Po...

For those of you who are not from Hong Kong reading this, Sham Shui Po and Lai Chi Kok are dense districts filled with wholesalers selling fabrics, buttons, leathers, upholstery, feathers, anything from shell pieces to precious stones and silks can be found here. Kanch spent about two hours in this ocean of countless creative opportunities and came back with some gorgeous colored, textured and patterned leathers.

This time we want some feedback from you! We have narrowed our choices down to different sets of leathers and colors that we like.

Tell us which one you like and email us: info@kanchancouture.com

Where have all the colours gone?

Today’s dressers are all about ease and functionality. There is little life and soul to the modern work outfit. History and culture tells us that humans love to adorn, decorate and embellish themselves. From tribal jewelry to piercings and tattoos, each culture and ethnic group has their own particular adornment. So why have so many of us lost sight of the fun aspects of fashion and our innate love of embellishments? People get worked up with the idea of need… ‘do I really need this?’, ‘when would I ever need to wear this?’. In the end, accessorizing should not be about need, but it should be about wanting, loving, and ultimately having fun. Necklaces, bracelets, belts and hats will never be a staple item in a wardrobe, but consider them the artwork to your clothing frame.  The detail that makes you stand out from the crowd.

I was walking through the MTR yesterday and really noticed for the first time how many people were wearing dark tones; black, grey, brown. Only about 1 in every 10 people I saw was wearing any colour. In my opinion, people play it too safe.

I’m not suggesting we all pierce and tattoo ourselves in order to inject some personality, but accessories provide us with a great means to this end.  I think even the traditional black work suit or dress can definitely be livened up while still keeping with the rules on corporate dress! For example, a thin coloured belt can be used to break up the black. A lighter coloured waist-coat or bright scarf can add a splash of colour while still remaining smart. Maybe choose coloured jewelry, brooch, shoes or handbag. Anything to add some colour and personality to an otherwise dark outfit.

If you are anxious about experimenting with accessories, the only advice is to try. Don’t be shy. How wrong can you really go?
